Spink 21163 – The Dr. Arnold Brickman Rhodesia Admiral Collection
October 28th, 2021
We are very pleased to offer this highly anticipated specialised collection of ‘Admirals’ meticulously formed by Dr. Arnold Brickman. Collectors of this classic issue of the George V era will be familiar with the complexities involved with the numerous printings and types during its lifetime – a production period of around a dozen years or so. The recent additions and corrections to the listing in Stanley Gibbons, culminating in this year’s latest Part 1 catalogue, is an attempt to both clarify and add to what was already quite a complex listing. It is understood that no further additions or corrections will be made to this. However, specialists will also know that a good number of printings exist which remain outside the scope of the Stanley Gibbons catalogue. To this point, a remarkable publication has been made by the Rhodesia Study Circle, written by Steven Reah-Johnson. This is known as Memoir 29, ‘A Study of the Colours and Printings of the Rhodesia Bi-coloured Admirals’, and is available to purchase through the website of the RSC. The collection formed by Dr. Brickman covers all aspects of the issue, and does venture into both the S.G. listed and Memoir 29 printings. In an attempt to keep a balanced classification between the two, most lots are referenced to an S.G. number / ‘group’. However, there are some lots which, as a result of their distinct appearance and/or rarity, have a ‘Ref.’ classification. This ‘Ref.’ classification is taken from Memoir 29 for each relevant duty. We are sure that the time, care and attention that Arnie has put into this collection, along with his eye for quality and rarity, will inspire new and veteran collectors alike, happy bidding.
