Dr. Reinhard Fischer 193rd Auction
21-22 juillet 2023
The auction house Dr. Reinhard Fischer in Bonn will hold its 193rd auction from June 21 to June 22, 2023. Our 193rd auction includes almost 9,000 lots with a large variety of rarities and highlights in the area of philately.
The German States start with an impressive offer from Brunswick, including many rare values in good condition such as a diagonal bisect of the 2 Silbergroschen MiNo. 15 as a single franking on an envelope. The piece is well-known in literature and has already graced the legendary collection of Gaston Nehrlich (starting price €25,000.-). Saxony 3 Pfennige red (Sachsendreier) MiNo. 1a in very fine condition are offered as a MH * superb copy from the Springer collection (starting price €5,000.-) and a used superb copy (starting price €4,000.-).
The era of the German Empire boasts a specialized offer of perforation varieties and postal forgeries, sketches and proofs as well as rarities such as the air mail issue “Gelber Hund”. A used flawless copy with double overprint in yellow and blue (MiNo. IV DD) starts at €6,000.-. Only 34 copies of these double overprints are known. Even more spectacular is a horizontal pair with an inverted overprint, one of which shows the popular overprint error “Huna” (MiNo. IV F K). Only two values with this double variety are known. Paired with the “normal stamp” – if an inverted overprint can even be called normal – this piece is very likely unique. The flawless MNH ** copy is offered at a starting price of €28,000.-.
The offer includes a set of German East Africa proofs on the crown/eagle issue (MiNo. P1/5 VI) on pieces of cover, cancelled “BERLIN W8”. This suggests that these copies are not cancelled by proof cancellations but postmarks at a normal post office. The lot is offered at a starting price of €4,000.-. Aside from an interesting offer, in particular of the Sudetenland, collectors specialized on Gdansk and Saar philately will certainly appreciate the rare varieties and special items offered in these areas. These include the 5 Mark “Reichsgründungsgedenkfeier” from Gdansk with inverted frame (MiNo. 15B KI, starting price €7,500.-). Even the expert Soecknick BPP attests in his certificate: “One of the rarest stamps from Danzig.” The 3 Mark “Sarre”, which was never issued, with overprint plate flaw III (MiNo. A17 PFIII), is offered in flawless MH * condition (starting price €18,000.-). Only 20 copies were surcharged, of which only the value offered in this sale shows the plate flaw. A set of covers with the complete issue from Mõisaküla MiNo. 1/7 starts at €10,000.-. Only 25 sets were produced. The imperforated GDR souvenir sheet issue on occasion of the “50th anniversary of the Reich conference held by the Spartacus Group” (MiNo. Bl. 25U), used in perfect condition, is rarely offered at auctions (starting price €8,000.-). The philatelists of Dr. Fischer made a spectacular new discovery in an at first glance rather unremarkable letter lot of the Classical era of Austria: What looked like an attractive two-color franking at first glance, turned out to be an extremely rare mixed franking of three different issues upon closer inspection. Two of the issues have the same color and denomination (MiNo. 10Ib+18a+26b; certificate by Prof. h.c. Dr. Ferchenbauer; starting price €5,000.-).
The collections provide many opportunities for collectors and resellers alike. Almost all of the nearly 800 lots are from collectors. Countless estates are offered in their original untouched condition without any item selected previously. There is something for everyone, from countless country collections such as an outstanding collection of district handstamps from the SOZ with the issued sets of all ten districts (starting price €6,000.-) to over 30 “treasure troves”.
