Dr. Reinhard Fischer closes the 2024 auction year with a sensational offer, just as it began with the auction of the “Wetterau” collection. The auction house in Bonn will hold its 199th auction from November 20-22, 2024 with almost 5,500 lots.
A special hardcover catalog with almost 1,000 lots will be published for the auction. On the one hand, it presents the “Treasures from the Treasure Chest” of a long-standing customer, with a focus on the stamps of the German Empire and the German occupation issues of World War II, and on the other hand the “Neptune” collection, an exclusively mint collection of German colonies and German occupation issues of World War II.
The “Preziosenschatulle” collection includes an interesting offer from the Old German States, including Brunswick. This includes rare pieces such as the 2 Sgr. on blue paper (MiNr. 7aH) halved on cover in impeccable quality, which previously adorned the Gaston Nehrlich collection with a starting bid of 2,500 euros, or the ¾ Ggr. on blue paper (MiNr. 7aH). The issues of the German Empire have been comprehensively specialized, the top piece is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful known mint examples of the 9 Kr. “Großer Brustschild”, also with minting errors, in impeccable luxury quality with photo certificate Jäschke-Lantelme BPP at the starting bid of 10.000.- Euro. From the colonies many rarely offered pieces come to the auction, here as attractive as rare are two halved 10 Pfennig values from the Marshall Islands, once with the I. Overprint vertically halved (MiNo. 3H) on letter piece and with the II. overprint diagonally halved (MiNo. 9H) on postcard, which was first offered in 1932. The currently attested items are available at auction from 3,000.- and 2,500.- respectively. The German secondary territories are represented by a small but fine selection. This includes the unissued “Bayern-Sarre” 2 Pfennig, which was printed in an edition of only 1,000 copies. The impeccably canceled stamp is also available at auction from 2,000. A “set letter” of the Estonian local issue Moiseküll MiNr. 1/7, including the maximum value of 2.40 R. printed in an edition of only 25, will be available at auction from 8,000.-, with the 1.50 Rbl. stamp available at the same starting bid. On 5 kop. franking mark of Alexanderstadt with overprint in type III as an unused, flawless upper margin piece. Only a few lots later, a mint Alexanderstadt 10 Rbl. on 1 R. will be the next rarity to be auctioned, bids for the flawless piece will be accepted from 9,000. From the GDR comes an essay by Appelmann on the 20 Pfg “Karl Marx” stamp, which was used in a mixed franking on a letter from Berlin. Further examples of this essay can be found in the Postal Museum in Berlin, but none are known to exist on a letter. Bids from 1,000 will be accepted for this unique item. For Europe collectors, there is a small selection of Austria and Switzerland, including modern imperforate values such as MiNo. 883U and 1862U, each in mint condition, for 500.- and 400.- respectively.
The “Neptun ”collection also comes from the hand of a good customer who, in addition to being a connoisseur of German philately, was also an absolute fanatic when it came to quality. The result is perhaps the best mint German colonies collection in existence. The special catalog therefore offers numerous opportunities for which you will certainly have to wait a long time. The World War II issues, on the other hand, show a comprehensive specialization in some sub-areas, including major rarities of occupation issues and even Germany philately! The following exemplary highlights do not even come close to doing justice to the comprehensive range.
The colonial philately inspires in an incomparable depth with rare varieties, colors and special features. The handstamp overprints of the Deutsche Post in China are extremely rare in mint condition, a 30 Pfennig value MiNr. 12 in mint condition is priced at 10,000. Even rarer is the unissued 15 Piaster on 3 Mark Reichspost of the Deutsche Post in Turkey with overprint type II (MiNr. VI): An incomparably beautiful pair of types with the original stamp in type I + II with upper margin is offered for 25,000 euros.
Another highlight of the auction is the World War II occupation issues with a multitude of “Once in a Lifetime” opportunities! Outstanding here is the offer of the occupation of Dunkirk in France. The 5 and 10 Fr. special stamps are among the rarities of the collection area, with an issue of only 10 copies; only 2 copies are known to date. These stamps are the counterparts to the values that were auctioned in January by Dr. Fischer in the “Wetterau Collection” for 74,000 euros and 84,000 euros respectively. Both stamps are in unused, impeccable condition and bids will be accepted from 25,000 euros. Directly following this, the auction will offer a lot that represents an absolute highlight in Dr. Reinhard Fischer's career, which has already spanned more than 40 years: With the 50 Francs maximum value of the special stamp issue , a stamp is being auctioned for the first time which was completely unknown even to experts in the field until a few years ago and which has only recently been included in the Michel.
MiNo. A48II, the "Blue Mauritius of Dunkirk ” (with which it has only the color in common, the Mauritius is many times more common), is known to date only in a single copy. The unique piece is being offered at 60,000 euros. Incidentally, all three lots mentioned served as illustrations in the Michel Germany special catalog. Another rarity from the occupation of France is a courier letter from the “Organization Todt” , of which only around 30 examples have survived. The letter on offer also bears the black canceller, which has only been known four times to date - the reserve price is 10,000 euros. All lots are offered with new Autumn VP photo certificates.
The main catalog contains numerous rarities, special features and a quality offer of sought-after issues. One of the rarest stamps of the inflation period is the 10 Mark service stamp MiNr. 71Y with horizontal watermark - a flawless (!) used example with new photo certificate Weinbuch BPP is offered at the conservative price of 15,000 euros; after all, flawless pieces of this rare variety have not been on the market for years. From a collection II. World War II from a Belgian collector comes an exceptionally interesting offer of propaganda cards. For collectors of non-German areas, Dr. Fischer has again put together a nice offer of Austria and Switzerland, the latter with the “Waadt 4” in unused condition (with non-original gum) and in above-average margins for the minimum bid of 5,000. The Hawaii offer from an old and interesting collection with almost 100 lots also deserves special attention.
The collection offers high-quality opportunities for collectors and resellers. Almost all of the more than 800 lots come from collectors. From estates without any withdrawals to well-stocked country collections such as an extensive, complete special collection of old German Württemberg “Pfennig” and official stamps with postmarks, units and interesting covers from 3,500 to the Belgian philatelist's collections of “World War II ”, which are not only highly interesting in terms of postal history and attractively presented, with hundreds of covers, documents, propaganda cards and newspapers, there is an interesting offer for every specialist and collector.
More than 350 collector's lots as well as all individual lots including their certificates can be viewed in Dr. Fischer's online catalog.
